The Rainbow International School Bus Rules

October 22, 2009
Dear Parents,
As you know, at RIS we strive to build a safe and dynamic learning environment for all students. This occurs not only in the classrooms, but also on the buses that bring your children to school. Lately we have had some unfortunate incidents on the buses, so this is a good time to remind everyone of the bus rules and policy. Please be aware that each classroom teacher has reminded all of the students of these rules on numerous occasions.
The Rainbow International School Bus Rules:
·         Students must listen to the bus monitor or bus driver at all times.
·         Students must remain seated with their seatbelt on at all times.
·         Students must use their quiet voice at all times.
·         Students must keep their hands and feet to themselves at all times.
·         Students must refrain from eating, drinking, or littering on the bus.
·         Students must refrain from any bullying (verbal or physical) at all times.
To explain these rules to your child, perhaps it is easier to use these words:
·         Listen.
·         Seatbelt on.
·         Be quiet.
·         Don’t touch anyone.
·         No eating.
·         No drinking.
·         No trash.
·         No bad words.
To ensure a safe bus environment, the bus monitor or bus driver will keep a checklist of student behavior. All misbehavior will be reported immediately to RIS administration. Students engaged in misbehavior will face the following consequences, as per the Rainbow International School Bus Policy:
First Offense: Warning by the bus driver or supervisor, and student will be assigned a specific seat
Second Offense: Warning by classroom teacher, and parents will be notified by email, letter, or telephone call in a timely manner
Third Offense: Notification to parents of impending suspension
Fourth Offense: A one day bus suspension (student not allowed to ride the bus to or from R.I.S. during this period)
Fifth Offense: A three day bus suspension (student not allowed to ride the bus to or from R.I.S. during this period)
Sixth Offense: A five day bus suspension (student not allowed to ride the bus to or from R.I.S. during this period)
Seventh [Final] Offense: Revocation of school bus privileges. The parents will be henceforth completely responsible for arranging transportation to and from R.I.S.
_________________________________________________________________
This revised policy is effective immediately (Thursday, October 22nd, 2009). In the interest of fairness to all students, all previous student misbehavior on the buses will be forgotten. Every student begins with a clean slate on October 22nd.
Please be sure to discuss these rules and their importance with your children at home. Also, do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions regarding the Rainbow International School Bus Rules and Policy .
Sincerely,

Principal
