Principal - Nusret Çelik

Principal - Nusret Çelik  
Mr. Celik was born in Konya, Turkey.
 
He graduated from  the Physics Education Department of Marmara University in Istanbul.
 
He has taught Grades Eight through Eleven for twelve years in Mongolia, Turkey and Russia.
 
He has worked in various administrative positions, such as Guidance Counsellor, Vice Principal, Head of Physics Department, and School Director.
 
He likes playing football and reading.

Vice Principal - Altay Dikeç

 
Mr.Dikec is the Vice Principal at Rainbow International School.
 
He graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey and obtained his Master Degree from GIST in Gwangju, Korea.
 
He has been living in South Korea since 2000 and he is fluent in Korean language.
 
He is from one of the most beautiful cities of Turkey, Bursa. He enjoys running and playing soccer. He is married and has a son.

Grade 3 - Classroom Teacher - Lee Smith  

Mr. Smith was born in England, then moved to the prairie province of Saskatchewan in Canada when he was six years old.

He completed university degrees in English Literature, Psychology, and Education, and since 1994, has taught in Mexico, China, Australia, Taiwan, Canada, China again, Canada again, and now in Seoul, Korea.

He is delighted to be working with and learning from the Grade Three students at Rainbow International School.

Grade 1 - Classroom Teacher - Cailin Terhaar

 

Ms. Terhaar is from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

 

She graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, from Concordia University in St. Paul. This is her third year teaching in Seoul, and her first year at Rainbow International School.

 

Ms.Terhaar is looking forward to sharing and appreciating other cultures with her diverse class!

Grade 2 - Classroom Teacher - Rebecca Meyer

Grade 2 - Classroom Teacher - Rebecca Meyer  

Ms. Meyer has been a proud member of Rainbow International School since January 2009. 

She is from Ontario, Canada and graduated from York University in Toronto with her Bachelor of Education degree. She has had the pleasure to teach in grades one, two and three in Canada before joining R.I.S. 

Ms. Meyer loves sports, aerobics classes,running, traveling, reading and surrounding herself with the people she cares about.

She feels honoured to be part of such a diverse school, and continues to enjoy sharing in the culture and celebrations that the students and staff of R.I.S. have to offer.

Grade 4 - Classroom Teacher - Jill Shaw

 

Miss Shaw is from Nova Scotia, Canada. 

She began her undergraduate studies in Anthropology at Saint Mary’s University in Nova Scotia and completed her degree at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik on an exchange program she initiated. 

She then did her Bachelor of Education at the University of Maine. 

She has a passion for teaching and feels if you create a respectful classroom conducive to learning that every student can obtain their educational goals.

Grade 5 - Classroom Teacher - Marcia Carver

 

Marcia Carver was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada.

In 2001, she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Cape Breton Univerisity.

She later went on to continue her studies at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, NB where she received her Bachelor of Education degree in 2003.

Miss Carver has been living and working in Seoul since 2004.

In her spare time she likes to read, swim and travel.


MS Language Arts - Sylvia Lee

 

Miss. Sylvia Lee was born and raised in Toronto, Canada until the 8th grade when she left for Korea to attend an international school in Taejon to complete her Secondary studies.

 

She graduated from the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada, and is licensed to teach Secondary English and ESL. She is entering her 5th year of teaching Middle School Language Arts, and has taught at several international schools in Korea and an internship in Nicosia, Cyprus.

 

She enjoys shopping, travelling, snowboarding, meeting new people, and trying out international cuisine.

MS Mathematics - Hayriye Polat

 

Mrs. Polat is from Nevşehir, Turkey.

 

She graduated with her Bachelor of Education degree from Middle East Technical University in Ankara in 2006.

 

She has taught math in international schools in Bosnia and Kenya.

 

She is teaching mathematics to Grades 6, 7 and 8 students in Rainbow International School.

MS Social Studies & ES Physical Education - Ian Alexander

 

Mr Alexander is from Nova Scotia, Canada. He graduated from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick with a major in History in 2001 and then completed a Bachelor of Education degree at Brock University in Ontario.

 

Mr Alexander began teaching in a Korean public high school in 2005 and then taught in a pre-school before starting at Rainbow International School in 2009.

 

Mr Alexander believes that students need a healthy mind and a healthy body in order to become strong and empathetic world citizens. When not at school, he likes to read, swim and hike the mountains surrounding Seoul.


Science & Turkish Specialist - Mustafa Başer

 

Mr. Mustafa was born in Afyon, a small city in Turkey.

He graduated from the Elementary Education Department of Hacettepe University in Ankara.

He has been teaching Science and Turkish at R.I.S. for two years.

He likes watching movies and playing soccer.

He thinks that everybody can be a scientist if they believe.

Science & Guidance Specialist - Sinan Polat

 

Mr.Polat is from Turkey.

He holds a teaching degree in science education from Middle East Technical University.

For the last four years he worked as a science teacher in Mombasa, a coastal city in Kenya.

He has a keen interest in Technology and enjoys reading in his spare time.

Art & Design Specialist - Kim Soo Hyun

 

Ms. Kim was born in Korea and lived in Istanbul, Turkey for five years.


She received a Bachelor of American Culture and Literature degree from Istanbul Fatih University.

 

Also, she studied and received certification in Art Psychology for Children in Korea. Her hobbies include traveling and watching movies.

 

This is her first year teaching at RIS.

Music Specialist - Kim Hee Yong

Music Specialist - Kim Hee Yong  

Mrs. Kim grew up in a music-loving family, and naturally came to decide to major in Music.

She graduated from the Department of Music at Korea National High School of Traditional Arts with the highest honor, specialized in practical techniques in the College of Music at Chung-Ang University.

And studied Musicology in the Graduate School at Korea National University of Arts.

She also teaches music theories at Korea National High School of Traditional Arts and performs in a chamber orchestra.

Korean Specialist - Lee Shin Jung

 

Ms. Lee was born and grew up in Busan, the second largest city in Korea.

She studied Korean Education in the College of Education, then Korean as a Foreign Language in the Graduate School of Education at Korea University. She has taught Korean Grammar and Literature to Korean students at many Korean public middle schools since 2000. She also has taught Korean to foreign students since 2004. Ms. Lee taught summer camp at the Korea Language Culture Center at Korea University in 2005 and 2006, as well as Korean for Foreign Learners at Yeoksam Global Village Center since 2008.

She is delighted to be teaching all the students at Rainbow International School.

Library & ESL - Deanna Howard

  Ms. Howard is from Saskatchewan, Canada.

 
An avid reader from an early age, she obtained her B.A. and M.A. in English literature from the University of Saskatchewan. After completing her TESOL certificate, Ms. Howard taught in China, Australia, Taiwan, Canada, and Korea, where she has lived since October 2006. She is delighted to be part of the Rainbow team!

 
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, running, and exploring Seoul. 


ESL Stream Specialist - Cho Yoon Hee

ESL Stream Specialist - Cho Yoon Hee  

Mrs. Cho was born in Seoul, Korea and raised in Minnesota.

She graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies with a B.A. in English and obtained teaching licensure for full time K-12 ESL from the state of Minnesota.

She have been teaching at Rainbow International School for the past year.

Aside from teaching, she is a mother of three children who always keep her very busy !

She is an avid reader and loves COFFEE !!!

ESL Stream Specialist - Choi Borah

ESL Stream Assistant Teacher - Choi Bo Ra  

Ms. Choi graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and English.

She holds a teaching certificate in the subjects issued by the Ministry of Education.

As a graduate of an international school herself, she appreciates cultural diversity, values and accepts different points of view.

 ESL Stream Assistant Teacher - Lee Bok Hwa

 

Ms.Lee was born in Ansan, a small city in Korea.

 

After high school, she went to Turkey for University degree and she graduated from Political Sciences and International relations at Bogazici University.

 

She is pleased to being at Rainbow International School where different cultures in the world can coexist. She loves travelling.
